Highly collectable plant, native to South America , Calathea can flower, but its not their flowers that attract people to this plant. Flowers when appear are quite modest compare to stunning fleshy leaves that can be very long or small.
The Calathea is originally from the jungle around the Amazon in South America. Grows there in the lowest layer of the jungle where there is a lot of shade. May also have some more shade at home. Plant with beautiful drawings and shapes on the leaves.
Calathea are extra special because the plant 'whispers': in the morning the leaves open with a light rustle, in the evening they close again. Plant known for purifying the air.
Position: bright spot, no direct sunlight, will tolerate shadier spot too
Soil: light, well draining potting compost
Watering: as and when required
Fertilizer: lightly every 2-4 weeks through the growing season
Humidity: maintain high humidity
