Vanilla planifolia is originally from Southeast Mexico and Guatemala, but is now also grown in Madagascar, Reunion and Comoros. Madagascar and Reunion together account for 70% of world production. The Vanilla belongs to the Orchidaceae family.

Light: grows best in bright filtered shade 

Soil: rich, fertile, consistently moist soil

Watering: keep  both the growing medium and the wooden trellis structure damp, because the plant is developing "air roots" that draw moisture from the air. Allow the potting mix to dry out slightly between waterings 

Fertilizer: every two weeks during the spring and summer with orchid fertilizer

Humidity: high humidity, mist your plant regularly
