The Sansevieria trifasciata 'Lilliput', commonly known as the Lilliput Snake Plant, is a compact variety of the well-known snake plant, often referred to as mother-in-law's tongue. This dwarf cultivar is prized for its small size, making it ideal for small spaces or tabletop displays.

Characteristics:

  • Size: As a dwarf variety, 'Lilliput' typically reaches a height of about 6-8 inches, making it much smaller than the standard snake plant.
  • Leaves: The leaves are short, stiff, and upright with dark green and light green horizontal banding, characteristic of the Sansevieria trifasciata species. The edges may sometimes have a yellow margin.
  • Growth Habit: It grows in a rosette form, with leaves emerging in a tight cluster from the base.

Care Requirements:

  • Light: This plant is highly adaptable and can thrive in low to bright, indirect light. However, it performs best in bright, indirect light.
  • Water: Like other snake plants, 'Lilliput' is drought-tolerant. It requires infrequent watering, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
  • Soil: Well-draining soil is crucial. A cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal.
  • Temperature: Prefers average room temperatures but can tolerate a range from 55°F to 85°F (13°C to 29°C). It's best to avoid cold drafts.
  • Humidity: The plant is not particular about humidity and can adapt to dry indoor air.
